The Blue Door Pub - Chris' Pick for Oct 2010

Journal entry by Chris:
10/7/2010--The Blue Door
I recently heard a listing of the top 3 burger places in the Twin Cities. Based on this listing I chose The Blue Door. It is a small restaurant on Selby Ave in St Paul with about 10 tables & a bar. It is in the same building space as Port Azul, which we ate at awhile back and is now closed. Lisa told us the name of the of the old restaurant could be translated into "blue door".
Burgers might not be ethnic, but it is local, and we did have some ethnic flavors in our selections:
Jennifer has the Bangkok burger
Stacy had Thai lettuce wraps
Wendy had the Frenchy burger
Chris had the Hawaiian Luau burger
and Lisa & Sharon had The Classic ...not too spicy.
Jenny - traveling for work; no Juicy Blucy for Jenny :(
There was a Twins play-off game on the TVs and chatting was limited due to the noise. Twins lost to the Yankees too. We stood around outside after eating to talk a little more. Wendy's dad is having bladder surgery tomorrow and she and the girls will visit him at Mayo on Saturday.
Jennifer had a surprise for us. She plans to share a cooking class & dinner that she won at a silent auction with us from the chef at Gardens of Salonica. It will be very fun and the restaurant is one of Jennifer's favorites.
From the website:
Juicy Blucys – Our twist on a culinary and cultural phenomenon! We pay homage to our brethren across the river with an incredible lineup of original Juicys - a Twin Cities favorite burger in which the cheese is stuffed inside the fresh ground beef patty. Experts know to exercise caution on those first few bites to avoid the scalding cheese.
These beauties can be served with a side of hand-cut fries or tater tots for $2 or beer-battered green beans for $3. The Juicy Blucys are cooked to medium, and please let us know if you’d like to pass on the pickles.
